All Star Fresh (Guan Elmzoon)

Guan Elmzoon, widely known as All Star Fresh, is a DJ and producer with a remarkable wealth of experience. His mastery of turntablism (DMC World Championships) and his musical expertise have earned him respect from audiences all around the world.

All Star Fresh began his career in 1979, and it soon took him to international fame. After playing prominent clubs in Amsterdam and in Spain, particularly Mallorca, he looked for a new challenge. In 1988 he won the Dutch Mixing Championships (DMC), which led to an invitation to compete at the World Mix Championships at the Royal Albert Hall in London, where he took third place.

His performance in London caught the attention of Dave Funkenklein, manager of major hip hop artists, who invited him to enter the Lion’s Den in New York. All Star Fresh became the first non-American DJ to reach the finals of the World Supremacy Battle of DJs during the New Music Seminar, which led to invitations to perform alongside artists such as Public Enemy, Stetsasonic, Ice-T and Ultramagnetic MCs.

Beyond DJing, All Star Fresh is a producer and recording artist, and the founder of KING BEE. Under his production, Back By Dope Demand became one of the best-known hip hop records to come out of the Netherlands. He also worked with the production team Snap, known for I Got the Power: together they released Let’s Get Busy (Clubland Quartz feat. Snap introducing King Bee), which reached number 1 on the Billboard Dance Charts in the USA.

Coming home

Guan was born in Suriname, a proud member of the indigenous Kaliña people. The life lessons of his indigenous parents and grandparents are becoming ever more present in his lyrics and productions. After a decades-long international career he is on his way home: reconnecting with his culture and its spiritual lessons, and ready to be a voice for his people through his music.

As a Forest93 Ambassador since June 2024, he will not only be that voice but also actively support Forest93 projects that benefit indigenous causes in Suriname.

Today All Star Fresh plays weekly DJ sets on Fridays and Saturdays on jammfm.nl: old school dance classics, old and new school hip hop, funk, soul, Latin and Afro house.
