In January 2026, members of the board of the Green Growth Suriname Foundation, together with Forest93 Ambassadors Tiff and Kesh, planted a variety of fruit trees in a future agroforestry area in Saramacca.
Tiff and Kesh are cultivating this land to grow fresh, sustainable produce for their restaurant, Papa Aswa, in Amsterdam. By combining traditional agricultural practices with modern farming techniques, they are developing a resilient and environmentally responsible food system.
Through this project the couple are reconnecting with their roots: both of their families come from Suriname’s farming community. “We hope, one day, our children and grandchildren will come here to eat fruit directly from the trees,” says Rakesh Kanhai.
Their initiative reflects Forest93’s commitment to sustainable land use, cultural heritage and community-driven development.
