Office building for the Tewe Kwamalasamutu Foundation
A two-storey, multi-functional office building in Kwamalasamutu for community organisations, workshops and training, with a computer room that lets young people study on without leaving the village.

This project built a two-storey, multi-functional office building in Kwamalasamutu, designed as a central hub for community organisations, workshops and skills training. The Tewe Foundation coordinated the whole project itself, from drawing up procurement lists and running the build to organising the official opening.
Core objectives and facilities
- A home for local organisations: the building gives two vital local bodies a dedicated, reliable place to work: the Tewe Kwamalasamutu Foundation and the Trijana Foundation.
- Distance learning: the hub’s computer room is designed for young people aged 12 and over to follow distance-learning courses and certificate training.
In Kwamalasamutu, education has traditionally ended after primary school. With no middle school nearby, young people over 12 have faced a hard choice: give up their education, or move far away to Paramaribo.
By putting a digital learning environment in the village itself, the building bridges that gap. It lets young people carry on with their studies and their training without being separated from their families and their community.
How it unfolded
Solar energy for the Tewe building in Kwamalasamutu
Telesur's corporate social responsibility programme fitted the Tewe Kwamalasamutu office building with solar power. By running the lights, ventilators and computers, the installation lets the office work reliably without depending on expensive and intermittent diesel generators, which power the village only between 7pm and 11pm. The building is already in use for training.
