Kwamalasamutu and villages across south Suriname

In August 2022, Global Forest93 Ambassador Dean Gorré visited his football friends in the indigenous village of Kwamalasamutu. He handed over two full football kits to the Kwamalasamutu teams and organised a professional training session with the men.

Sport, especially football and volleyball, matters in indigenous villages. It brings people together at the end of the afternoon, and both men and women play.

The football teams in other indigenous villages in the south of Suriname — Amatopo, Curuni, Alalapadu, Palumeu, Peleletepu, Sipaliwini and Apetina — also received sports kits through Dean. He received the donations from the Dutch professional football club S.C. Heerenveen.

How it unfolded

  1. Sports kits for Community Tennis Suriname

In January 2023 the children from Community Tennis Suriname in Commewijne received kit, rackets, balls and training materials, after Forest93 came across a post showing CTS players winning trophies at a local tournament with old and borrowed equipment. The Forest93 team joined a tennis lesson on Saturday 14 January, together with ambassadors Tosh van Dijk, who came to motivate the players, and Christio Wijnhard. The children were handed their new equipment and then showed what they could do in a training session.
